Introduction
Today in this article we will discuss everything about HDD and SSD storage like what is HDD storage, what is SSD storage, where we use HDD and SSD storage, and finally why use HDD and SSD storage. This article will very much helpful for those people who are college students and they study Computer Science. So let’s start this article.
What is Memory?
In computers, Memory is the type of storage device that is used to store data and information. It is basically in 2 types, the first one is Main memory and the second one is Secondary memory. Now the question is what is Main memory and what is Secondary memory?
Main memory is the internal memory of every computer, which is also called a primary memory too. Main memory is located at Central Processing Unit as a CPU. So that main memory is much faster than secondary devices. But it is more costly and the storage capacity of the main memory is too less. The example of primary memory is Register, Cache memory Ram, and Rom, etc.
Secondary memory is the External memory of the computer and it is optional which means we can use a Computer without secondary memory. Generally, Secondary memory is used to store data or information which is a higher memory unit like we can easily store a 1GB or 2GB file in a secondary device. And the secondary memory is very cheap compare to primary memory. An example of secondary memory is a Hard drive, pen drive, disk space, etc.
And if we place the memory in Ascending order then, the main memory is too fast but it is too costly, and on the other hand, secondary memory is as well as fast and it is a very cheap price. And that is all about Memory.
What is HDD storage?
HDD storage means Hard Drive Disk, and this is the part of secondary devices. And as we discuss that secondary devices processing speed is nothing better but it is available at a cheap price just like HDD. There are around disk which is called a platter in Hard Drive Disk. And whenever the platter moves then the HDD will read and write and the read and write process is done by a small needle when the platter or disk moves.
So HDD means Hard Drive Disk is very cheap and it is used to store a higher capacity of data but whenever it falls in the ground by our hand or any other reason then it may be damaged and that is one of the disadvantages of HDD.
What is SSD storage?
SSD storage means Solid State Drive and it is also called a flash memory which is part of Secondary memory. But it is faster than Hard Drive Disk. That is because there are no platter or round disks in SSD storage. Many chips are connected to SSD and these are the memory of SSD storage. Secondary device indeed has less processing speed and these are very cheap but in case of Solid-state Drive it is very fast compared to HDD and it is very costly that is why because it has more speed and it’s not damage whenever it falls in the ground. And the capacity of SSD is very small as compared to HDD and this is one of the disadvantages of Solid State Drive.
Why use HDD and SSD?
After discussing HDD and SSD many people thoughts to buy SSD because it is not easily damaged and its processing speed is much faster as compared to HDD. But after it’s not true in some cases because sometimes we need more storage to store our files and in this situation, HDD storage is the best option to buy and the other hand if we are some software like Android studio, Photoshop, and many others then it requires more speed to process so that we can use without any leg and in this case, flash memory or SSD storage is the best option. So the use of HDD and SSD depends on our daily needs. We can also use both HDD and SSD.
Where to use HDD and SSD?
We can use HDD and SSD in windows operating systems like Laptops and Desktop computers. And we can use SSD or HDD separately or together in the windows operating system. If we need more storage then we can use only HDD storage and otherwise we can use SSD. And if we discuss the uses of HDD and SSD then many people use HDD because of its higher capacity and cheap price.
Final words
At last, we suggest that use Hard Drive Disk or Solid State Drive according to your use. And remember that Solid State Disk has very fast and costly as compared to Hard Drive Disk. And whenever we buy the latest version of the Laptop we get an SSD of 256GB or 512GB according to the price. And that is all about our today’s article.
